As a kind of biomass energy, biogas has been used in China for nearly a hundred years.

In recent years, China has vigorously promoted the development of biomass energy, and continuously increased the investment in biomass power generation, biomass equipment, biomass fuel base construction, biomass heating projects, biomass waste treatment and other aspects.

According to the "13th Five-Year Plan for Biomass Energy Development" of the National Energy Administration, by 2020, a green and low-carbon bio-gas industry of a certain scale will be initially formed, with an annual output of 8 billion cubic meters, and 160 bio-gas demonstration counties and recycling agricultural demonstration county.Biomass energy is basically commercialized and utilized on a large scale.The annual utilization of biomass energy is about 58 million tons of standard coal.

The total installed capacity of biomass power generation reaches 15 million kilowatts, with an annual power generation of 90 billion kilowatt-hours, of which agricultural and forestry biomass direct combustion generates 7 million kilowatts, urban household waste incineration generates 7.5 million kilowatts, biogas generates 500,000 kilowatts; 8 billion cubic meters; annual use of biological liquid fuel is 6 million tons; annual use of biomass forming fuel is 30 million tons.

The biomass energy industry has significant environmental benefits. In total, biomass energy can replace fossil energy by about 58 million tons. Annual emissions of carbon dioxide are reduced by about 150 million tons, dust emissions are reduced by about 52 million tons, sulfur dioxide emissions are reduced by about 1.4 million tons, and nitrogen oxide emissions are reduced by about 440,000 tons.

During the “13th five-year plan ”period, biomass key industries will realize large-scale development and become new industries that drive the construction of new urbanization and the development of rural economy.

It is estimated that by 2020, the annual sales revenue of the biomass energy industry will be 120 billion yuan, providing 4 million jobs and increasing the income of farmers by 20 billion yuan, bringing significant economic and social benefits.
